Dear Mr. Denton:

Carolina Power R Light Company hereby submits the In-Service Inspection Program for Pumps and Valves at the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant. This program is in the form of a plant procedure (ISI-203), which replaces the information in FSAR Section 3.9D; Section 3.9D of the FSAR was deleted in Amendment No. 23.

The format of the attached procedure is the same as FSAR Section 3.9D; however, the content has been revised to provide the latest information on the pump and valve ISI program. This update includes additional specific requests for relief from ASME Section XI beyond what was previously in FSAR Section 3.9D. As this program is implemented and additional information gained, it may be necessary to revise the program. Such revisions could include additional relief requests and will be submitted when they become available.

To aid in your review of this program, Mr. O. Rothberg was provided with full size copies of the flow diagrams listed in Table 5.l.l during a December 3, 1985 meeting in Bethesda, Maryland. To support implementation of the preservice inspection program we request your concurrence with the relief requests by May I, 1986.
