Response to Generic Letter 89-19 Gentlemen:
In a letter dated October 2,1990, the NRC requested that Waterford 3 respond within 45 days' with an appropriate schedule for the implementation of a steam generator overfill protection system (Generic Letter 89-19). In conjunction with the CE Owners Group, we have contacted Mr. Scott '
Newberry of the NRC and obtained his agreement for a meeting between the NRC and representatives of the CE Owners Group specifically to discuss ;
concerns with the NRC technical bases for Generic Letter 89-19 as well as the adequacy of prior licensee responses to Generic Letter '89-19. The ;
meeting is scheduled for November 20, 1990.
Accordingly, in view of the date for the response to your October 2,1990 letter and the scheduled meeting date, as well as the nature of the meeting, we request an extension to the 45 day response period until after the ,
1 November 20,-1990 meeting. The Waterford 3 response schedule to Generic Letter 89-19 will be discussed at the November 20, 1990 meeting. This approach was discussed with a representative of the NRC Staff on October 30,1990. ,
