REACTOR TRIP FOLLOWING TURBINE TRIP At 9:53 p.m. (CST) on January 26, 1998, the Unit 2 turbine tripped causing a subsequent reactor trip. All equipment functioned as expected following the reactor trip.  ;

The cause of the turbine trip remains under investigation by the licensee. At the time of the event, the licensee was performing troubleshooting maintenance on a circuit card for the main turbine digital electro-hydraulic control system. It appears that a replacement circuit board had an incorrect electronic configuration, which resulted ,

in a trip. t The plant will remain shut down for at least seven days for unrelated maintenance activities.

The Senior Resident Inspector responded to the plant site to monitor the licensee's response to the event.

On January 27, 1998, a three-member NRC team made up of an engineering specialist, and two resident inspectors was dispatched to the site to i evaluate the licensees followup and assessment of the event.

The State of Illinois will be notified. The information in this preliminary notification has been reviewed with licensee management.

The licensee notified the NRC Operations Center of this event at 10:26 p.m. on January 26, 1998. This information is current as of 9 a.m. on January 29, 1998.
