WATER HAMMER DAMAGES PIPE SUPPORTS PUtLIC DOCUMENT FCCM At:7:30p.m.(CST), March 25, 1986, while conducting hot functional testing (HFT),

two main steam line pipe supp s thpp sWyN9pnnel failed as the result of an apparent

, water hamer. Both the pipe s o erfd the Yt'eam lines are outside containment and considered non-safety related. Damage occurred during a rapid depressurization of main

' steam line "B" when steam was dtypqtdef0095the main condensor via the main steam bypass valve. The water hamer, which 'foflowed, may have been caused by pipe configuration.

l The' steam line dropped about seven inches below normal as a result of. the failed supports.

There was.no apparent damage to the steam line itself. :The licensee has replaced the supports and impounded the damaged corrponents for further analysis. The HFT will not.

continue until the analysis is complete.
