The information is as initially received without v;rification or evaluation, and is basically all that is known by the Region III staff on this date.

DISK RUPTURES ON PRESSURIZER RELIEF TAhK; WORKMEN INJURED At 10:55 a.m. (CDT), June 4, 1986, the pressurizer relief tank was overpressurized with pure water, bursting the rupture diaphragm and releasing water to the containment drain system.

The overpressurization was caused by an incorrect valve lineup during preoperational testing of the leak detection system. There was no apparent damage to plant equipment. Several contractor employees sustained minor injuries, one of which was removed from the site via ambulance to a nearby hospital.

Region III (Chicago) received several news media inquiries, particularly from television stations, asking about the " explosion" at Braidwood. Region III has been responding to th:se inquiries.

The event is not reportable to the NRC, but resident inspectors will follow the licensee's course of action during a routine inspection.

The State of Illinois will be notified.

Region III was first informed of this event at 11:30 a.m. (CDT), June 4,1986. This information is current as of 11:45 a.m. (CDT), June 5, 1986.
