EARTHQUAKE 1 At 6:49 p.m. (CDT) on June 10, 1987, an earthquake occurred near Lawrenceville in Southeast .

1111nois. It was felt in at least 11 states. Unusual Events were declared by six nuclear power stations, but no damage was observed at any locations. According to the U. S. Geological Survey, the earthquake measured 5.0 on the Richter scale.

Four plants -- Clinton, Quad Cities 1 and 2, Prairie Island 1 and 2, and D. C. Cook 1 and 2 -- declared the Unusual Events based on the response of seismic instrumentation. -Two additional plants -- Dresden 2 and 3 and Palisades -- declared Unusual Events based on the 1 observations of plant personnel, but no seismic instrumentation alarms were received. All units at these plants were. in operation at the time of the earthquake, and their operations were not affected. Ground motion was also felt by persons at the Lacrosse, Braidwood, Zion,  ;

LaSalle, and Byron nuclear power stations. l The closest plant 'to the earthquake was Clinton at a distance of approximately 100 miles.

All six plants which declared Unusual Events performed surveys of equipment and structures following the earthquake and no damage was observed. . Clinton reported that a motor in the electro-hydraulic control (EHC) system started automatically at the time of the earthquake.

Palisades reported that a level alarm was received from the Safety Injection Tank; the tank le ml was normal, and the alarm was determined to be the result of momentary level change cansed by ground motion.
