BOMB THREAT ,

', .On December 23, 1977, at 7:32 a.m., a telephone call was received by a secretary for the piping contractor for the ,Braidwood site. The caller, who was described as,a male with a dee voice, asked the secretary if this was " Norther'n Petro Chemical Company." When she advised him it was the Braidwood site, the caller said, "you'd better clear eve ~ryone out because there is a bomb set to explode at 9:00 a.m. at Reactor Building fl."

The construction superintendent was notified and the workers were requested to search the immediate area for any suspect devices. No mass evacuation was made and no suspicious devices were found during the search. Nonnal ,

work was resumed after 9:00 a.m., the time the caller said the " bomb" was to explode. - - -

44 The licensee suspects that the caller may have been a former guard of Northern Petro Chemical Company.who had been fired by that company.

He understands that Northern Petro Chemical has received bomb threats after two guards were fired.

RIII notified the Chicago Field Offices of the FBI and ATF of the telephone bomb threat in accord with existing agreements. No press release is planned by the licensee or by RIII. '

Braidwood is a two-unit nuclear reactor site under construction and is located approximately 60 miles southwest of Chicago.
