SHUTDOWN TO REPAIR STEAM GENERATOR TUBE LEAK On October 23, 1993, the licensee commenced a shutdown of Unit I due to ,

indications of a primary to secondary leak in the 1C steam generator'. These indications were increasing radiation levels and alarms on the IC steam line, '

blowdown line, and steam jet air ejector exhaust lines at about 7:48 a.m. a Subsequent chemistry samples confirmed a primary to secondary steam generator. -

tube leak of about 228 gallons per day (Technical Specification limit of 500 -

gpd) at aboui 2:10 p.m. The leak rate appeared to increase to 300 gpd at about 3:00 p.m.

The licensee used a slow shutdown rate of five percent power per hour to i eliminate possible stresses that might aggravate the leak. The shutdown was completed on October 25. The licensee estimates the outage will last 21. days.

The Senior Resident Inspector was notified of the shutdown by the licensee. He responded to the plant and observed the shutdown. The resident inspectors and Region 111-(Chicago) will monitor the licensee's repair activities.

The State of Illinois has been notified. Information in this preliminary notification'has been reviewed with licensee management.
