SUBJECT:
SHUTDOWN IN EXCESS OF TWO DAYS The licensee shut the Unit down on July 30 v: hen it was determined that repairs to one of the five emergency diesel generators could not be completed within the required time limits contained in the plant's technical specifications. The diesel generator was declared inoperable on July 27. The plant can not operate more than three days with one diesel out of service.
The licensee expects repairs to be complete by August 5.
Media interest has not occurred. The licensee will respond to media inquiries. The NRC does not plan to issue a news release.
The State of Georgia has been informed.
Region II (Atla'nta) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the Headquarters duty officer at 3:30 p.m. (EDT) on July 30.
