EQUIPMENT' QUALIFICATION INSPECTION OF SUMMER NUCLEAR PLANT:

This letter confirms the date of January 11-15, 1988, for the NRC environmental qualification (EQ) for electrica1 ' equipment inspectionifor . Summer. These dates were established during a telephone conversation with you'and Mr. H. C.. Dance.

of this office on November 18, 1987. The inspection will take place at'the' plant site.

A management entrance meeting is scheduled for 1:00 on January 11,~1988, with a management exit meeting tentatively scheduled for.10:30 a.m., on January 15, 1988, both at the plant site. A plant walkdown inspection of . specific EQ equipment is planned for January 13, 1988, and will require escorted service by knowledgeable EQ personnel of your organization.

The inspection will include but not be limited to the following:

1., Review of your implementation of 10 CFR .50.49 EQ' program,' including >

preservation of qualified status of equipment.

2. Review of your implementation .of Technical. Evaluation Report / Safety Evaluation Report EQ corrective action commitments.
3. Review of EQ documentation files including all supporting calculations'and performance characteristics (including instrument and loop accuracies. in' which effects of decreases of insulation resistance as a result of hostile environment degradation of equipment- such as terminal blocks, cable, splices, EPA, transmitters, etc., are evaluated '(see NUREG/CR-3691);

variation in current; volt:ger. frequency and other ' . electrical characteristics that could imact the qualification). Additional detailse for auditability of EQ records are specified in IE Notice 85-39.

4. Physical inspection of equipmuit from the Master List.

At least two weeks prior to the inspection we will require one copy of each document identified-in the enclosure with a plus (+) mark, f
