SUBJECT: PILGRIM INTEGRATED INSPECTION REPORT 50-293/98-05

Dear Mr. Olivier:

On June 8,1998, the NRC completed an inspection at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in

Plymouth, Massachusetts. The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection.

During the seven weeks covered by this inspection period, the conduct of activities at the

Pilgrim facility was characterized by generally safe plant operations. Based on the results

of this inspection, we identified several concerns in the fire protection area which were

considered unresolved pending additional NRC inspection. We willinform you of our

assessment of the safety significance and enforcement aspects of these issues at a later

time.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter

and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
