r ENCLOSURE 2 NOTICE OF DEVIATION Georgia Power Company Docket Nos. 50-424 & 50-425 Vogtle License Nos. CPPR-108 & CPPR-109 The following deviation was identified during an inspection conducted on February 24-28, 1986.

In a July 11, 1983 letter, the licensee informed the NRC of their proposed plan for investigation of a support failure that had been determined potentially reportable in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55(e). The licensee stated in the submittal that the failure had occurred through lamellar tearing and that their planned investigation would include a field walkdown of supports which utilized weldments of similar size and type, to confirm that additional lamellar tearing had not occurred elsewhere. The licensee further stated that:

"This inspection will include, as a minimum, samples of weldments made to the embed plates fabricated from heat numbers 7417461 and 7419919".

Heat numbers 7417461 and 7419919 were the respective heat numbers for the plate in the support that originally failed and for the plate in another support which . failed by lamellar tearing in a destructive test performed by the licensee.

Contrary to the above, the licensee did not assure inspection of any support weldments fabricated from heat numbers 7417461 and 7419919 in their investigation.

Please provide, in writing within 30 days of the date of this Notice, a descrip-tion of corrective actions regarding this deviation, actions taken to avoid further deviation, and the dates when these actions were or will be completed.

Security or safeguards information should be suanitted as an enclosure to

- facilitate withholding it from public disclosure as required by 10 CFR 2.790(d) or 10 CFR 73.21.
