Vogtle Electric Generating Plant - Units 1 and 2 50-424, 50-425; Defective Weld Wire Attention: Mr. James P. O'Reilly Gentlemen:
On July 9,1983, Mr. C. W. Hayes of Georgia Power Company reported a potential deficiency to the USNRC concerning the possibility of defective weld wire being used for stainless steel to carbon steel welds. At this time, Georgia Power Company is conducting some metallurgical tests on this wire and cannot commit to a schedule for resolving this concern.
Georgia Power Company intends to submit an interim report on this concern to the NRC by October 14, 1983.
This response contains no proprietary information and may be placed in the NRC Public Document Room upon receipt.
