Secretary of the Commission U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington DC 20555

Dear Sir:

It is my strong belief that any hearings for Georgia Power's Vogtle Nuclear Plant should be held in the county in which the plant is located--Burke County, Georgia.

While the benefits of this plant in terms of its electrical output will spread far across the region, the immediate surrounding area (Burke County) will undoubtedly receive the

. greatest positive (jobs, salaries, taxes) and negative (social change, potential for accident) impact. If safety, evacuation procedures, and related issues are the critical components of such hearings, it appears obvious that the residents of that immediate area should be given the greatest opportunity to let their voice be heard. That will not be possible if the hearings are held in Atlanta, Washington, or some other distant location.

Please act favorably on this request to locate the hearings in Burke County.

You very truly, W$k es T. Ferrell, Jr.
