D' 4 DOCKET NO: 50 370 UNII: McGuire 2 DATE: 10/15/91 NARRATIVE

SUMMARY

MONTil: September 1991 McGuire Unit 2 began the month of September operating at 1006 full power.

The unit operated at or near 100% full power until 1450 on 09/25/91, when feedwater containment isolation valve 'CP 26' failed closed due to an apparent grounded solenoid. The reactor was manually tripped before the automatic trip on low steam generator level. The unit was placed on line at'1635 on 09/26/91, and a power ecalation was commenced.

During the power increase the unit was held at 28% power from 1900 to 2104 on 09/26/91 for chemistry, at 356 power from 2231 on 09/26/91 to '

0251 on 09/27/91 for governor valve swing, at 40% power from 0322 to 0529 on 09/27/91 for main feedwater pump problems, and at 49% power from 0700 to 0841 on 09/27/91 for nuclear instrumentation calibration.

The unit reached 100% full power at 0157 on 09/28/91, and operated at 100% full power for the remainder of the month.
