Dear Mr. Clark:

This letter will confirm Cynthia Lewis's telephone conversation with you and Mr. Leon Engle on August 20, 1982 concerning the July 13, 1982 application by the Virginia Electric and Power Company (Vepco) that its North Anna Power Station operating licenses be amended to permit the receipt and storage at North Anna of spent fuel assemblies from Vepco's Surry Power Station. As discussed, our firm represents the Louisa County Board of Supervisors, which has a strong interest in Vepco's request and wishes to inter-vene in the Commission's proceedings on the application.

Because North Anna is located in Louisa County, our client is very concerned that all consequences of Vepco's applica-tion, its impact on operations at North Anna, and other issues important to the County are addressed in the review of the requested amendment.

You advised Ms. Lewis that the Commission will publish a Federal Register notice of the filing of Vepco's applica- QQf tion, as well as the filing expected within the next few weeks with respect to the installation of additional storage racks at North Anna. I understand that the 30-day time limit for intervening in the proceeding will begin to run from the date of the Federal Register publication. We will look for the notice and will submit the appropriate intervention peti-tion once it has been published.
