Dear Mr. Denton:

-Duke Power Company is filing herewith Amendment No. 68 to its Application for Licenses for the McGuire Nuclear Station which is under construction pursuant to Construction Permit CPPR-84. This filing includes three signed original copies of the amendment with attachments entitled, " Revision 42 to the Final Safety Analysis Report" and Revision 5 to Report No.~MDS/PDG-77-1, " Evaluation of the Effects of Postulated Pipe Failures Outside Containment for McGuire Nuclear Station". This filing also includes-15 additional conformed copies of the amendment with an additional.45 copies of Revision 42 to the Final Safety Analysis Report and 22 copies of Revision 5 to Report No'. MDS/PDG-7.7-1.

Revision 5 to Report No. MDS/PDG-77-1 provides the final documentation of tihe pipe break anal fsis performed on Unit 1. Revision 42 updates various sections: -

'of the Final Safety Analysis Report to support licensing of-Unit 2. Major items in this revision include:

(1) Chapter 4 changes to account for use of B C4 hybrid control rods *

-(3) Updated station personnel resumes in Chapter 13 (4) Miscellaneous changes and clarifications Copies of this amendment 68 have been distributed in accordance.with the requirements of Part 2.101 of the Cotanission's regulations and the instructions contained in Mr. Roger S. Boyd's letter of August 6, 1976.
