MOTOR ACTUATORS ON ACTIVE, SAFETY RELATED VALVES -

Dear Sir:

' We have determined that we have furnished valves to two nuclear plant sites which have motor actuators that have not been qualified fcr containment service. The

. valves in question do not meet our customers procurement specification requirements. .

It has been determined by our customer that the valves in question are required to perform safety related functions.

Anchor / Darling Valve Company has identified the specific valves as 2 - 6" 150#

gate valves and 6 - 12" 150# gate valves. Four valves have been shipped to Union Electric Co., Calloway Plant #1 and four valves have been shipped to Kansas Gas and Electric Co. , Wolf Creek Generating Station Unit 1.

The following pertinent informatica is provided: -

1. Facility where condition was discovered .

at the two above referenced plant sites.

2. The firm supplying the component -

k. Anchor / Darling Valve Company

3. Nature of failure -

Valve actuators do not meet customer procurement requirements, Bechtel Spec 10466-M-225 and Bechtel Spec 10466-M-223A.

4. Date informatim was obtained -

November 14, 1978

5. Corrective action -

Anchor / Darling V51ve has notified our customer of the specific valves that have been delivered.
