As discussed with you in a telephone conversation, we are providing a copy of the letter that our Quality Assurance Group will be mailing to the two addi-tional sites we have found to have the type of mechanical interlock referenced in our discussions. The two sites, in addition to the two SNUPPS sites, are:
- 1) Carolina Power & Light - Shearon Harris Plant
- 2) Louisiana Power & Light - Waterford Unit III Plant We will inspect the starters located at these two sites as soon as the two companies contact us after our notification. The two SNUPPS sites (Wolf Creek &
Calloway) have been inspected and modifications have been made, no further action is required at these two sites.
We believe the above information, after all actions are completed, will help you to close your open file. We will keep you informed when we have completed our inspection at the Carolina & Louisiana Power sites.

During start-up of identical starters it has been found that due to possible variation in tolerance, the vertical interlock installed between the tie contactor and the corresponding i
starter may, under certain conditions bind, preventing the full transfer between high and low speed.
The starters furnished to your location are located in the following motor l
control centers and bear the following identification:

1 To prevent the possibility of failure during start-up operation, we want to have our field service personnel inspect the above mentioned equipment and, if necessary, install a modification kit.
In order to assure you of minimal delay, we would like for you to contact our Mr. Diamond Rose at (301) 876-2214 to set up a field inspection at your earliest convenience.
