Dear Mr. Seidle:

On January 26, 1979, we verbally informed your Mr. W. A. Crossman of apparent weld metal defects in the shop weld between the Unit No. I reactor pressure vessel hot leg nozzle "C" and its safe end. We considered this "potentially" reportable under 10 CFR 50.55(e). We submitted interim responses logged TXX-2958 and TXX-2970 dated February 19 and March 19, 1979, respectively.

We are continuing our inyestigation and evaluation and will notify you as soon as we have reached a conclusion.

Very truly yours, R. . Gary RJG:dla cc: NRC Region IV - (0 + 1 copy)
