UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION REGION IV 1600 E. LAMAR BLVD.

ARLINGTON, TX 76011-4511 April 11, 2017 Mr. Eric Larson, Site Vice President Entergy Operations, Inc.

Grand Gulf Nuclear Station P.O. Box 756 Port Gibson, MS 39150

SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF PUBLIC MEETING WITH ENTERGY OPERATIONS, INC.

Dear Mr. Larson:

This refers to the public meeting conducted at the Claiborne County Multi-Purpose Center, Port Gibson, Mississippi, on March 28, 2017, between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and your staff. Approximately 14 people attended the public meeting, including members of the general public, with representatives from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, the Mississippi Department of Health, the Green Party of Mississippi, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

During the meeting, the NRC presented the results of the annual assessment of safety performance at Grand Gulf Nuclear Station for the period of January 1 through December 31, 2016, as documented in NRC Inspection Report 05000416/2016006, issued March 1, 2017 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML17059D517). A copy of the NRC presentation and the public attendance sheet from the meeting are included as Enclosures 1 and 2, respectively.

During the meeting, your staff presented the stations perspective regarding the events that contributed to the transition to the Regulatory Response Column of the NRC Reactor Oversight Process (ROP) Action Matrix in 2016, as well as a recent extended plant shutdown. During the public question-and-answer portion of the meeting, there were several questions from the public regarding the environmental impact of plant operation, the recent extended shutdown, the availability of NRC inspection reports, the NRC budget, traditional enforcement violations, and past significant events in the industry.

In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 2.390, Public inspections, exemptions, requests for withholding, a copy of this letter and its enclosures will be made available electronically for public inspection in the NRCs Public Document Room or the

E. Larson 2 NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management System, accessible from the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html. Should you have any questions concerning this matter, we will be pleased to discuss them with you.

Sincerely,

/RA/
