SUMMARY
OF JUNE 25, 2020 TELECONFERENCE WITH GRAND GULF NUCLEAR STATION On June 25, 2020, a Category 2 public teleconference was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and representatives of Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS). The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the development of confirmatory success criteria analyses involving the GGNS. The meeting notice and agenda, dated June 8, 2020, are available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) at Accession No. ML20177A260. A list of attendees is provided as Enclosure 1.
During the teleconference, NRC staff presented on the background of the confirmatory success criteria analysis project, plans for the project scope, status of the MELCOR model development, and plans for the scenario and analyses selection. NRC staff then presented on the two broad scenarios being investigated, in terms of the modeling assumptions of interest and the probabilistic risk assessment sequences that may be used to frame the investigation. The staff also presented the next steps for the project going forward. The staffs presentation can be found at ADAMS Accession No. ML20176A345.
During the presentation, questions or comments were posed by the participants regarding the consideration of high-pressure core spray in the analyses and the operation of reactor core isolation cooling (including isolation and the systems performance during the accident at Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power station). The staff noted these issues and will consider them in their upcoming analyses.
