SUMMARY
OF DECEMBER 15, 2022, PERIODIC ADVANCED REACTOR STAKEHOLDER PUBLIC MEETING On December 15, 2022, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held an information meeting with a question-and-answer session with stakeholders to discuss advanced reactor topics including:
Graphite Component Modeling
MACCS Reports
Operator Cold License Training for Advanced Reactors
Using Lessons Learned to Optimize Advanced Reactor Licensing Activities
Workshops on Licensing Review Framework for Advanced Reactors Instrumentation and Controls.

The Enclosure to this summary provides the attendees for the meeting as captured by Microsoft Teams.
For each topic listed above, the NRC staff provided information and allotted time for stakeholder comments and questions. Stakeholders provided feedback on several of the topics and asked clarifying questions. NRC staff stated that the feedback was appreciated. No follow-up actions were identified. Members of the public were in attendance and the NRC did not receive public meeting feedback forms.

The NRC staff provided updates of the Advanced Reactor Integrated Schedule of Activities on the NRCs public website at https://www.nrc.gov/reactors/new-reactors/advanced/integrated-review-schedule.htmlhttps://www.nrc.gov/reactors/new-reactors/advanced/integratedreview-schedule.html. The NRC staff noted that the schedule reflects activities that have recently been completed, updated, or added since the October 12, 2022, advanced reactor stakeholder meeting.
The NRC staff presented an overview of a graphite aging and degradation tool. The presentation provided the overview of the tool and its use. The presentation also provided a discussion on the need for the tool, its limitations, and an overview of important considerations when modeling graphite components.
The NRC staff and staff from Sandia National Laboratory presented an overview of three technical reports which discuss various technical issues that may apply to consequence analyses for non-light-water reactor designs.
Industry participation included the Nuclear Energy Institute. Mr. Rick Stadtlander provided a presentation on a draft technical document that addresses operator license training plans for advanced nuclear reactors.
The NRC staff presented a summary on the NRCs use of lessons learned from previous licensing reviews to improve the agencys future advanced reactor licensing activities.
The NRC staff also discussed a proposal for future workshops with industry related to advanced reactor instrumentation and control systems. The purpose of the workshops would be to clarify details related to guidance for the submittal and review of these systems in licensing applications.
