Safe Restart and Operation of San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) Unit 2 - SUPPORT

Dear Senators Feinstein and Boxer and Representative Issa:

The Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce supports the safe restart and operation of San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS)

Unit 2. We understand the regulatory process is currently underway and a restart plan is being considered.

Many businesses in Garden Grove and the surrounding region rely on safe and affordable energy in order to provide their goods and services. The business community is the backbone of the local and regional economy. Our business community needs to be assured that safe and affordable energy is readily available.

San Onofre offers "baseload" generation by providing a base of power to serve customers' needs day and night regardless of the weather. This cannot be dtiplicated by other clean power facilities and those facilities cannot produce equivalent levels of power. The ChAmber believes that SONGS is vital to the continued electricity demand by current and growing businesses.

As youusknow, our ec6nomy facing a tough, uphill climb out of the recession, especially in California. It is no surprise that companies liave been leaving California in search of lower costs of doing business. Nuclear power continues to be one of the lowest-cost producers of baseload electricity for business and others alike.

Lastly, if SONGS should remain offline beyond 2014, its operator - Southern California Edison (SCE) - would need to consider other alternatives to produce electricity through the lengthy and cumbersome multi-year regulatory reviews and approvals process.

Businesses in our region and throughout California cannot afford a blow to the critical electricity infrastructure. Our businesses need to rely on stability and predictability of nuclear power and SONGS would help achieve such reliability.

On behalf of the Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce, thank you for your leadership on this matter and please feel free to contact me if you should have any questions.

Sincerely, Jeremy Harris President/CEO' CC:.
