SUBJECT:

CDPH Review and Comments on SONGS Draft EA Dear Sir; GAVIN NEWSOM Governor The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) concurs with your assessment of the controlled area boundary exemption for SONGS but we do have one comment with regard to a pair of calculational errors in one section.

On page 11 under the paragraph in Section 3.1.3 "Accidents" there are two conversion errors present. On line 4 it states that 5 rem is equal to (0.5 Sv). This is incorrect; the correct conversion is (0.05 Sv or 50 mSv). In line 8 it states that 3.87 rem is equal to (38.7 Sv). This is also incorrect; the correct conversion is (0.0387 Sv or 38.7mSv).

Sincerely; John Fassell, Chief, RAM-ICE Section, Radiologic Health Branch Radiologic Health Branch, MS 7610
