Dear Senator Feinstein:
I am writing this letter to express my support for a fair and balanced regulatory process that results in the restart and operation of the Southern California Edison (SCE) San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS)
Unit 2.
With the 9th largest economy in the world, California depends upon reliable energy to power its businesses forward. Located here in Orange County, SONGS is an integral component of SCE's energy network, providing more power than any~other individual energy source in the region since it began operation in 1968. If SONGS were to continue to remain offline for an extended period of time, SCE may be forced to consider other measures to generate the power Southern California businesses and residents count on each and every day, perhaps constricting the ability of the region - and the State of California - to continue its slow recovery from the malaise that still threatens our economic competitiveness.
I share the belief that our business community needs to be reassured that reliable, competitively-priced energy will be available when needed. While California should seek to diversify its portfolio of energy production, we should not neglect the benefit of nuclear energy. We must remember that nuclear power produces one-fifth of California's electricity.
i Primed on Recyckd Paper
Senator Dianne Feinstein January 30, 2013 - Page 2 I feel confident SCE will restart SONGS with public health and safety foremost in mind as it does its part to help Southern California prosper. I encourage you to support getting SONGS back in operation as quickly as possible.
Sincerely, Tim Shaw Councilman cc:
