Generic Letter 97-01, " Degradation of Control Rod Drive Mechanism Nozzle and Other Vessel Closure Head Penetrations" dated April 1,1997, requested PWR licensees to provide 30 and 120 day responses. The NRC requested for the 30 day response that licensees indicate whether or not the requested information will be submitted and whether or not the information will be submitted within the requested time period. The purpose of this letter is to provide the 30 day response. l Waterford 3 has been participating in CEOG and other industry group activities to l

address reactor vessel head nozzle cracking issues. Waterford 3 is continuing this i participation in order to assemble and analyze the relevant information. Waterford 3,

/

in conjunction with these group initiatives, will provide the 120 day response to the ,

information requested in Generic Letter 97-01 by July 30,1997. Any areas of the requested information that cannot be provided will be discussed in the 120 day response.
