Subject:

NRC Request for Additional Information (TAC No. M95506) from the University of j j Virginia Reactor (UVAR), Docket No. 50-62, License R-66, concerning a UVAR Technical j

Specification (UVAR TS) Amendment Request.

I

DearMr. Adams:

i With respect to U.Va.'s proposed Technical Specification amendment proposal ofMay 28,1996, the additional information related to NRC's September 19,1996 request has been gathered.

However, some questions posed by the NRC, and the answers formulated in response thereto, have resulted in a full reevaluation of the amendment request. From this reevaluation, we have concluded that the UVAR Technical Specifications, as presently approved by the NRC, are adequate for the time being. Therefore, we now wish to withdraw U.Va.'s May 1996 proposed TS amendment from further consideration by the NRC. Consequently, we will not be submitting the information developed in response to the NRC request at this time.

It is likely that early next year we will submit to the NRC a much revised TS amendment proposal. This submittal will benefit from the analysis performed due to the NRC questionnaire.

Thus, the questionnaire was very useful. Should there be any questions, please call me at (804) 982-5440.
