Dear Mr. Adams:

1 As I stated in my April 15,1998 letter, the University of Virginia's administration had made a decision to move toward ceasing operations of the UVAR reactor. Mr. Mulder (in his letter of April 1,1998) was acting in response to this same decision. The Board of Visitors has notified us both that there will be a final review of this decision. This process should be completed by the end of May, and at that pojat the University will make official notification to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission with regards to whether i the UVAR reactor will cease operations.

' You have my apologies for any problem our premature notices may have caused.

Sincerely, a(4/-

Ralph Allen ,
