HIGHLIGHTS-The reporting period began with the unit in Mode 1 st the 80%

power level administratively imposed to minimize steam generator tube degradation. The unit operated at 80% for the , entire month with-the exception of the period from 5-29-87 to 5-31-87, when i

power was increased to 90% due to an operating reserve in effect.

The reporting period ended with the unit in Mode 1 at 80% power.

Gross Electrical Generation for the month of May was 660,670 MWH.

i SUkMARY 5-29-87 0920 Hours: Started increasing. power to 90% due to the plant being placed on operating reserve.

1315 Hours: Stabilized power at 90%.

5-30-87 2300 Hours: Operating reserve cancelled, began power decrease to 80%. ,

5-31-87 0340 Hours: Stabilized power at 80%.

. TELEPHONE (616) 465-5901 PAGE 1 of 1 MAJOR SAFETY-RELATED MAINTENANCE MAY, 1987 M-1 The 6 inch component cooling water header piping to the reactor coolant pumps was found to have a' flaw.

Repairs were completed by grinding and welding the piping.

M-2 The #3 boric acid transfer pump tripped on thermal overload during the monthly surveillance test. The pump was replaced, retested, and verified operable prior to returning to service.
