BALTIMORE 800502v NI l GAOAND I ELECTRIC y-CHARLES CENTER . P.O. BOX 1475 BALTIMORE, MARYLAND 21203 ELECTRIC ENGINEERING otraavutNT April 28, 1980 Mr. Boyce H. Grier, Director Office of Inspection and Enforcement Region 1, USNRC 631 Park Avenue King of Prussia, PA 19406

Dear Mr. Grier:

Subject:

Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant Units Nos. 1 and 2 License Nos. DPR-53 and 69 Nonroutine Radiological Environmental

)

Operating Report This report is submitted in duplicate to comply with the require-ments of Appendix B Environmental Technical Specifications Section 5.6.2.b.

The Oyster samples were collected on March 7, 1980 from the Camp Conoy sampling location and analyzed for gamma-emitting radionuclides as required. The results of the analyses showed the presence of Ag-110m at 12915 pCi/Kg(vet). The oyster samples collected on the same date from the Kenwood Beach sampling location (the background location) showed Ag-110m at T 3 pCi/Kg(vet).

The samples of bottom sediments collected on March 7,1980 from the Camp Conoy location were Ge(Li) counted for complete gamma isotopic analyses. The results of these analyses showed the presence of Co-58 at l

208226 pCi/Kg(dry) and Co-60 at 209 24 pCi/Kg(dry). Similar samples for '

the same period collected from (i) Long Beach showed Co-58 at $20 pCi/Kg(dry),

(ii) Intake area showed Co-60 at f20 pCi/Kg(dry).

Based on the observed levels of Ag-110m during this sampling period, for an average adult consuming one kilogram of oysters per year the doses to the GI Tract and Whole Body are estimated at less than 8x10-3 mrem / year and less than 1.2x10-5 mrem / year, respectively. These are very small fractions me-. eeaw 4- -me 9--8+ *-M--

Mr. Boyce H. Grier, Director April 28, 1980 of the allowable 25 mrem / year (GI Tract) and 25 mrem / year (Whole Body) doses to members of the general public, (140 CFR Part 190 Environmental Radiation Protection Standards for Nuclear Power Operations) and are therefore considered to be of no consequence to the health and safety of the public.

Very truly yours, f/&y -*
