Dear Mr. Bowen:
RE: NPDES Permit Special Conditions A.3 Noncompliance NPDES Dischame Permit MD0002399A. State Pennit 92-DP-0187A On June 15,1998 at 10:00 AM, a sample for fecal coliform analysis was taken from the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant Sewage Treatment Plant effluent (Monitoring point 101 A, Outfall 001) to perform the weekly analysis as required by the Site NPDES Permit. On June 23,1998 at 1:35 PM, the laboratory reported that the fecal coliform result was 900 MPN/100ml. This result exceeds the Daily Maximum Limitation of 400 MPN/100ml. All other analysis results were normal.
An investigation was initiated after the sample results were reported, but no apparent cause was identified. Plant operations were not changed during this period, and all other analysis results were normal. The Sewa0e Treatment Plant records indicate that the chlorination system was functioning normally. The flow records were reviewed and the contact time was sufficient.
No impact upon receiving water was observed as a result of this event. The duration of this noncompliance is not known. The effluent was sampled again on 6/22/98, the result for this analysis is expected 7/1/98.
If you have any questions regarding this information, please contact Brenda D. Nuse at (410) 495-4913.
Sincerely, Nk PEK/BDN cc:
