Auxiliary Boiler Water Discharge, December IF, 1989

Dear Sirs / Madames:

Attached you will find a copy of the letter to the State of Maryland describing a non-compliance auxiliary boiler water discharge event at Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant which occurred on December 18, 1989._

We-are required by our NPDES permit for Calvert Cliffs to' report to the State any non-compliance event.

Dear Mr. Beazley:

This letter is to inform you of a non-compliance condition that occurred at Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant.

On - December 18, 1989, the auxiliary boiler blown down to the Chesapeake Bay-via outfall 001, monitoring point 103.

Over an approximately 1. hour seriod, 6000 gallons of auxiliary boiler water was discharged. The-tota' sus > ended solids of this batch discharge was 43.0 mg/ liter _which was less tlan our daily maximum limit of 100 mg/ liter.

However, since this was the only discharge for-the month,.our monthly average of. 30 mg/ liter was exceeded.

No impact upon the recotving water was observed _or-is expected, If you have questions regarding this information, please feel free to call me, 301/260-4905.
