PUBLIC SERVICE INDIANA September 2, 1960 S. W. Shields Senior Vice Presdent -

Nuclear Duision Mr. James G. Keppler Docket Mos.: STN 50-546 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission STN 50-547 Region III Construction Permit Nos.:

799 Roosevelt Road CPPR - 170 Glen Ellyn, IL 60137 CPPR - 171 Dear Mr. Keppler

SUBJECT:

Marble Hill Nuclear Generating Station - Units 1 and 2 On March 7,1980, Mr. S. J. Brewer of Public Service Company of Indiana, Inc. ,

(PSI) telephoned your office to notify you of a potentially reportable item as required by 10 CFR 50.55(e). This item pertained to the ability of the major structural contractor's Quality Assurance Program to assure that PSI or Architect-Engineer originated design changes were incorporated into plant construction activities.

As discussed in the interim report of April 2,1980, PSI's structural contractor performed a visual inspection to verify the incorporation of thos' design changes which could not be verified by records of construction activities. As a result of the delay in resumption of safety related construction some of those design changes in question which were inaccessible due to the location of heavy equipment and temporary decking at the time of the interim report Sre still inaccessible presently. This issue therefore cannot be resolved at this time and PSI anticipates a final report will be submitted on or bef.re November 1, 1980. If you have any questions on this matter, please fee t free to contact me.

Sincerely,

.
