Dear Mr. Keppler:
On October 3, 1983, Mr. L. G. Yeager of Public Service Company of Indiana, Inc. (PSI) notified your office of a potentially reportable item as required by 10 CFR 50.55(e). This item concerns the potential that safety related ductwork already installed may not have received the engineering evaluation necessary to meet the design criteria for a seismic event. If this deficiency exists, and had it gone uncorrected, it could have affected adversely the safety of operations at Marble Hill.
PSl's architect engineer, Sargent and Lundy, is currently performing calculations to determine the ductwork's ability to withstand a seismic event. Upon completion of this task, PSI will take appropriate corrective actions, if necessary.
This letter is intended to fulfill the thirty (30) day reporting require-ments of 10 CFR 50.55(e) and is considered an interim report. A further report will be filed on or before March 9, 1984. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact me at your convenience.
