Dear Mr. Keppler:
On May 9, 1980, Mr. T. D. Geib of Public Service Company of Indiana, Inc. (PSI) notified your office of a potentially reportable item as required by 10 CFR 50.55(e). This item, which pertains to the operation of centrifugal charging pumps during a high energy line rupture, was described in an interim report to your office dated June 2, 1980.
Westinghouse proposed an equipment modification to resolve this concern for Commonwealth Edison Company's (CECO) Byron Station. Westinghouse and CECO are working to refine the modification to their mutual satis-faction. Marble Hill is a replicate design of the Byron Station and PSI will therefore consider CECO's decision for the Byron Station prior to completing its own evaluation.
This letter is intended to fulfill the requirements of an interim report as defined in 10 CFR 50.55(e). A further report will be filed on or before October 28, 1983. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact me at your convenience.
