SHUTDOWN TO EXCEED 48 H S y
OnAugust8,1989,at5:20a.m.[thelicenseebeganareactorshutdownfrom 100 percent power. The shutdown is proceeding in an orderly manner at 10 percent per hour. The licensee has been experiencing a slow increase in unidentified drywell leakage over the previous week. The unidentified leakage is presently at 4 gpm with an associated Technical Specification limit of 5 gpm.- The leakage appears to be coming from the "A" recirculation pump outboard seal. The outage is expected to last 7 days with replacement of the recirculation pump seal as the critical path item.
Neither the licensee nor the NRC plans to issue a press release.
The state of Louisiana will be informed.
Region IV received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the resident at 7:45 a.m., August 8, 1989. Region IV has informed the EDO, NRR, and the PA.
