-June 8, 1989 Docket No. 50-364 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attention: Document Control Desk Washington, D. C. 20555 Gentlemen:

Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant - Unit 2 Updated Inservice Inspection Program for ASME Code Class 1, 2 and 3 Components (TAC No. 71578)

By letter dated December 16, 1988, Alabama Power Company (APCo) submitted an updated Inservice Inspection (ISI) Program for ASME Code Class 1, 2 and 3 Components for Farley Nuclear Plant - Unit 2. The NRC subsequently requested a list of only those reliefs which were necessary to support completion of the Unit 2 sixth refueling outage. This list was provided by letter dated February 8, 1989 and was later modified by letter dated March 23, 1989. On March 31, 1989 the NRC granted the ISI Program reliefs requested for the Unit 2 outage.

The ISI Program was updated based on the 1983 Edition through the Summer 1983 Addenda of the ASME Code,Section XI. This program, now in effect, governs completion of the examination requirements for the third forty-month period of the first ten-year interval, which ends on July 30, 1991. Approximately two ars, including one refueling outage tentatively scheduled for September 1990, are left in . Ich to complete the remaining examination requirements. Alabama Power Company respectfully proposes the following schedule for completion of the NRC's review process and interim or final approval of the relief requests which vere not granted by the NRC's March 31, 1989 letter:

August 31, 1989 NRC submits a formal request for additional information (RAI), if necessary, on the remaining reliefs. Schedule a review meeting between APCo and the NRC as needed to resolve open issues on the RAI and NRC's review of the ISI Program.

December 1, 1989 APCo submits a revised ISI Program reflecting agreements from the resolution of the RAI and meeting issues.
