the Farley Nuclear Plant Information Management System (FNPIMS) for development of work requests and design changes. Further clarification was also requested regarding control of the FNPIMS database utilizing reference documents.

In the' November 30, 1989 submittal, Alabama Power Company stated:

"The MMPS referenced in the NRC request for additional.Information is part of the Farley Nuclear Plant Information Management System ,

(FNPIMS). The FNPIMS provides a more detailed list of components and subcomponents than the 0-List. FNPIMS aids the procurement, maintenance, operations and daily planning departments'in the identification of safety related components and subcomponents.

As described-in the February 15, 1984 response to Item 2.2.1.3, Alabama Power Company utilizes several controlled source documents -

to identify safety related components and subcomponents. Although it is not considered the 0-List, the FNPIMS database contains a field for designation of components as safety or non-safety related.

Designation of components and subcomponents as safety or non-safety related is accomplished by an evaluation of that component against "

11 source documents. FNPIMS database is controlled by authorized individuals. The FNPIMS has access terminals located throughout the plant site, at the-Birmingham General Office, and at the design organizations."

. -APCo Clarification - Item 2.2.1.2

-As stated in the November 30, 1989 submittal, the FNPIMS database is utilized'as an aid for procurement, maintenance, operations and p daily planning. As an example, the FNPIMS database would be-utilized in the work request development process for determining l-factors such as whether the equipment is safety or non-safety related, plant conditions required for maintenance of the equipment, location of the equipment, etc.

The FNPIMS database was developed using source documents such as the Farley Nuclear Plant FSAR, design documents, etc. These source documents were developed by the design organizations and any' design changes are evaluated against the source documents; not the FNPIMS database.- Equipment changes and classification changes resulting from design changes are entered into the FNPIMS database through an access authorization system which ensures that changes to the database are made only by designated personnel.
