SUBJECT:

FEMA FINAL REPORT - CATAWBA NUCLEAR STATION EMERGENCY EXERCISE OF FEBRUARY 20, 1986 Enclosed is a copy of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Final Report for i

the Catawba Nuclear Station Emergency Exercise of February 20, 1986.

As described in the enclosure, FEMA did not identify any deficiencies; however, four areas have been identified that require corrective actions.

Specifically, the items noted were:

(1) failure to provide dosimetry to all emergency workers at the Sharon Fire Station, (2) members of the Sharon Fire Department were not fully aware of their monitoring and decontamination responsibilities; (3) no 50P's relating to decontamination were available for use by Sharon Fire Department

(

personnel, and (4) lack of written procedures for personnel in the Gasten County L.

EOC.

We encourage you to assist the appropriate organizations in resolving the weaknesses identified by FEMA.

Resolution of these items should be completed prior to the next full scale emergency preparedness exercise.

We alsc encourage you to work closely with the State and counties in the develope,.nt of a scenario for the next full scale exercise that will effectively test the areas in which the above items were disclosed.

Your cooperation in this matter is appreciated.

Sincerely,

(
