Catawba Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-413 and 50-414 Technical Specification Amendment Standby Nuclear Service Water Pond l

Gentlemen: .

This letter contains an amendment request for the Catawba Nuclear Station Technical Specifications (TS). This proposed amendment revises the

-surveillance requirements of T.S. 3.7.5.b for the Standby Nuclear Service Water Pond-(SNSWP). The SNSWP surveillance will be changed to require an

_ average temperature less than or equal to 92.F at the 563 feet elevation.

The'TS; Bases are modified to reflect this change.

' Duke Power is requesting approval of this TS Amendment by August.1, 1990.

It'is also requested that the proposed change become effective 15 days after-issuance of the license amendment. Timely review of this change will: avoid an unnecessary emergency situation if the late summer months are unusually hot-and' dry.

Attachment I contaires the marked up TS and TS Bases.

Attachment 11 contains the Discussion, Technical Justification, No Significant Hazards Analysis, and Environmental Impact Statement.

Pursuant to 10CFR 50.91 (b)(1) the appropriate South Carolina State Official
