Dockets Nos. 50-321 and

-366 Mr. William Widner Vice President - Engineering Georgia Power Conpa.7 P. O. Box 4545 Atlanta, Georgia 30'i02

Dear Mr. Widner:

SUBJECT:

Environmental Qualification of Electrical Equipment This letter transmits an Order which requires information to support the environmental qualification of safety related electrical equipment at Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant, Units Nos.1 and 2.

The Corrmission's Memorandum and Order of May 23, 1980 addresses safety related electrical equipment exposed to a harsh environment, inside or outside containment, resulting from an accider.t.

The Order requires that all such equipment in operating reactors be fully qualified by June 30,1982.

F To complete this objective, you are required to submit, by November 1, 1980, all information to support a safety evaluation of the aforemen-tioned equipment.

If your facilities had an established commitment date before November 1,1980, it is fully expected that your submittal will be not later than that co=itment date.

If your facilities' comitment date is past without a complete submittal, it is strongly recomended that actions be expedited since they have already impacted the staff review schedule.

Briefings were held with all interested licensees during the week of July 17, 1980. Enforcement actions relative to this Order were dis-cussed during these briefings.
