Units 1.nd 2 Docket Nos. 50-416/417 File 0272/0498/15325 Interim Report No. 3 for Potential Reportable De-ficiency No. 79-06 as Defined in 10 CFR 50,55(e)

AECM-79/74 On March 2, 1979, Mr. J. K. Rausch of your effice was notified of a potential reportable deficiency at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station construc-tion site concerning the failure of a Type L2 Auxiliary Switch Assembly installed in the 4.16 KV switchgear.

The failed switch assembly and a switch assembly with a crack in the end molding were returned to the equip-ment supplier, Gould Electric Systems Group, for analysis.

The equipment supplier's analysis and our examination of the Unit 2 switchgear have not been completed. We now estimate that the question of reportability will be resolved by October 31, 1979.
