Under tFe provisions of 10CFR21, NR gion II was notified on 4/25/79 that a potential significant deficiency or substantini safety hazard exis'.ed at North Anna Power Station, Unit 1.

In ac. ordance with the reporting requirements of the above regu-lations, che following information is submitted:

Name of firm supplying the compw et, activity or service: Pyrotronics Sentracon, 80 Wilson Way, Westwooo, Maine 02090 D. Description of defect, deficiency, or failure to comply: The computer program will not correctly operate the system thereby allowing vital area access to unauthorized personnel under certain circunstances.

E. Date of determination of reportability: April 25, 1979

Deploye_d security personnel to guard unoccupied vital area doors. The systen was then restored to operability by Technicians. The computer program is currently being revised by the vendor under the cognizance of station personnel.

- 87 stem to enter a "degt:aded mode" .in which the key card system operates independent of the coc:puter allowing unrestricted access to any card holder. This is the third occurrence of this type.

The previous dates of determination of reportability were April 9, 1979 and April 19, 1979.

Any additional information regarding the above topic will be sub-mitted as a follow-up reporc.
