Dear Mr.Russell:

The RGRE response to Inspection Report 50-244/87-11 was transmitted by RGRE letter dated September 1, 1987 from Roger W.Kober to William T.Russell.This response indicated, in part, that construction activities related to Inspection Report Deviation A (seismic analysis and supports for the Standby Auxiliary Feedwater System and portions of the Service Water System)were expected to be completed by the end of the 1989 Refueiing Outage.RGGE has completed significant portions of the engineering and construction of this project, but is unable to complete activities by the projected date.In addition to the work effort required to implement Bulletin 79-02, this work effort is also upgrading the affected piping and pipe supports to a more rigorous level, consistent with the remainder of the Seismic Upgrade Program. This has presented several unanticipated analytical challenges.

These analysis complexities, together with higher than expected resource requirements, have resulted in a delay in the expected project completion date.At present, nine of twelve analysis lines have engineering analysis of the piping and supports complete.Six of these nine lines have been issued for construction and construction activities on these six lines are approximately 80%complete.All work in containment was completed during the 1989 Refueling Outage. The construction activities for all the remaining lines outside containment will be in progress during the post-'89 outage period, and are expected to be completed by'December 29, 1989.Very truly yours, Robert C.Mecredy General Manager Nuclear Production (
