Dear Mr. Johnson:
As stated in oui July 11, 1990 correspondence on the referenced
- subject, RG&E has performed an evaluation of the source of groundwater in the annular access area around containment.
Based on the results of our review, RG&E has high confidence that groundwater is entering this area from behind the sheetpiling, rather than from underneath containment.
RG&E is at this time performing structural evaluations of the containment system to address the NRC's request for additional information of 'uly 9, 1990 and the subsequent July 18, 1990 conference call.
These evaluations will be performed in an expeditious manner.
The schedule for and level of detail in our responses will be discussed with the NRC in the near. future.
