Gentlemen:
During the Spring 1990 Unit I condenser retube/ refueling outage, .;
l ' Georgia' Power -Company (GPC) inspected intergranular stress corrosion '
cracking (IGSCC) susceptible welds per our commitments to Generic Letter a (GL) 88-01 and NUREG-0313, Revision 2. . As a -result of these inspections, 1 twelve 28-inch . welds 'were found to require repair. By letter dated l April 30, 1990, GPC transmitted the proposed weld overlay designs for these q L- Ewelds and requested NRC permission to restart Unit 1. The NRC responded by 1 R . letter on May 17,.1990 stating, " ... when the identified welds have been ;
repaired in accordance with the overlay designs, restart of the unit may be i safely conducted. We will, of course, expect to receive the full report of t the outage related inspection activities following-. restart of Unit- 1."
i Enclosed,- per your request, is a report detailing the IGSCC examination results, . weld overlay design (proposed and as-built) and evaluation of the weld. overlay shrinkage stresses.

the - Unit 1 Spring 1990 outage. A full report of the results of inservice inspection- (ISI) activities will be submitted per the Owners Data Report, i Form NIS-1. The ISI report will be submitted no later than 90 days after the. ISI outage activities were completed (i.e., by August 31,1990).
