SUMMARY

OF THE MAY 18, 2010, PUBLIC MEETING TO PROVIDE PROGRESS ON THE NUCLEAR EXCELLENCE MODEL AND UPDATES ON OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE, GENERATION RELIABILITY, AND ORGANIZATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS AT POINT BEACH

On May 18, 2010, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting at the NRC Region III office in Lisle, Illinois. The meeting was between NRC Region III and FPL Energy Point Beach, LLC representatives. The meeting was requested by the licensee

1) to provide the progress on the Nuclear Excellence Model developed for Point Beach, and 2) to update the status of the specific plan elements of operational excellence, generation reliability, and organizational effectiveness.

The NRC began the meeting with introductions and a statement of the purpose of the meeting. The licensee then made its presentation. The licensee's meeting presentation slides can be found in ADAMS at ML101380210. A list of principal meeting attendees can be found in the attached Enclosure.

In its presentation, the licensee discussed progress on their Nuclear Excellent Model and the improvements made and remaining challenges in the various process and programs related to operational excellence, generation reliability and organizational effectiveness. Mr. Meyer, of the licensee, concluded the presentation by stating they are confident that the Nuclear Excellent Model has resulted in the expected improvements and the 2010 Model goals will provide additional, sustained improvement.
