PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-77-25

. and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

Facility: Peach Bottom Unit No. 3 (DN 50-278)

Subject:

CORE SPRAY LINE CRACK INDICATIONS During this refueling outage inservice inspections have identified the

- ~ following pipe cracks in the primary coolant boundary. These cracks have

caused a delay in the scheduled date for plant startup from February

" - ~

- 23 to March 5,1977:

1. One crack on the "A" core spray line to 5/8 inches long and

.070 inches deep - 10% of wall thickness. (PNO-77-13)

2. .One crack on the "B" core spray line 7/8 inches long and .025 inches deep - 5% of wall thickness.
3. One crack on the "B" Recirculatory Loop four-inch bypass line h to 3/4 inches long and .015 inches deep - 10% of wall
  • thickness. s._

The four-inch bypass line has been, repaired by replacement of

( a 12-inch section of line.

Media interest is not expected. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has been informed. A press release is not planned.

NRC, Region I, (Philadelphia) received notification of the latest status on these occurrences by telephone from the Philadelphia Electric Inservice 4'

! Inspection Coordinator at 10:00 a.m., February 8, 1977. NRC inspectors have also been on site following investigations and repairs. /'
