PLANT SHUTDOWN GREATER THAN 48 HOURS At 4:07 p.m. on July 19,1986, Unit 3 scrammed from 87% power when a reactor pressure spike caused a high neutron flux scram signal. The pressure spike was caused by a main steam isolation valve (MSIV) closure when one of the offsite power sources tripped, resulting in a momentary loss of plant emergency power. Power was restored with the other offsite power source and the scram response was normal. The licensee made an ENS call. The unit is currently in cold shutdown. The licensee will repair a failed DC coil on the MSIV that closed in addition to performing miscellaneous maintenance activities. The outage is scheduled for several days.
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has been notified.
